The Department of Economics is one of seven departments in UABS and is regarded as one of the leading Economics groups in Australasia. It has a strong research culture and offers comprehensive undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes. Faculty members are active in publishing in leading international peer-reviewed journals, attracting external grants, supervising doctoral students, and maintaining links with the profession, industry, and government.
The Department is seeking to appoint full-time Lecturers (i.e. tenure-track Assistant Professor), Senior Lecturers or Associate Professors specialising in international trade, international macroeconomics, financial economics, and energy economics. The department particularly welcome scholars researching AI and the macroeconomy, fintech, trade policy, international monetary problems and electricity markets, using theoretical and/or empirical approaches. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong research potential, as well as a commitment to excellent research- informed teaching that is enhanced by appropriate learning technologies. Continuation (tenure) is based on performance in research, teaching, and service.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, permanent employment contract. The salary ranges are (per annum salary depending on experience and qualifications):
Lecturer – NZD 97,831 – 119,200
Senior Lecturer – NZD 124,375 – 158,900
Associate Professor – From NZD 162,557

The successful appointee will have a PhD (or be near completion), with demonstrated excellence in research and a commitment to high quality research-informed teaching.

The appointee will be expected to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in their specialist area, at introductory levels more widely, and to engage in research and publication both personally and through the supervision of research students.
You will also be expected to seek research funding, to engage with the profession and academic and non-academic stakeholders, and to contribute to departmental service. Flexibility in teaching and research collaboration within and beyond the Department are essential.
