Start your career right here!  We are currently accepting expressions of interest for our 2026 Internship Programme

  • 400 hours paid paid internship
  • Launch your IT career at New Zealand’s largest university

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Our Internship programme is open to penultimate (second to last) year University of Auckland students to explore a career in technology.

The University of Auckland has one of the largest technology estates in New Zealand. Our scale and complexity provide the opportunity to access skills, approaches, challenges, technologies and career pathways you simply wouldn’t get elsewhere.

Interns will work on real projects with real impact for students, staff and our communities, while gaining practical skills and knowledge across a range of technical and non-technical areas.

Coached by subject matter experts, interns get to apply their theoretical learnings in the real world and develop those all-important soft skills such as communication and relationship building.

We generally look for interns in the following areas:

  • Applications Specialist
  • Digital Workspace
  • Platform Engineering
  • Service Management
  • Software Development

Find out more about each stream HERE.

We welcome applications from those enrolled in degrees beyond IT and who may have studied non-technical career paths but would like to explore a career in IT.

The programme

Our programme is designed for students who are new to the professional workplace and have no prior experience working in an IT department.

Interns will be coached by experienced colleagues and experts in their fields, who will support and guide them throughout the programme. You will get to work on real applications, problems and projects, and you will be encouraged to bring your ideas forward and contribute to the team from the get-go (no filing or making people coffee here!).
